Northern White Birch is the principal specie on which Mistral Hardwood Floor founded its reputation. The most abundant hardwood in the Saquenay-lac-Jean region is White Birch.  The durability of our hardwood flooring is primarily because of the unique density of the fibers of the wood that make up these slow growing trees.  The sapwood is paper white and heartwood is a soft tan brown.  Mistral Hardwood Floor offers this specie in the traditional white Select and Better grade and the more popular Colonial grade which is a natural mix of the sap and heartwood.  With its consistency in grain, the colonial grade takes a stain very uniformly and is available in a wide range of colors.

Red Birch is the unique cherry colored heartwood of the Yellow Birch trees found in the snow belt regions of Eastern Canada and the Northern Mid West of the United States.

Because these particular Yellow Birch trees have a shorter growing season the heartwood is more dense and harder than those trees harvested further south.  Mistral Hardwood Floor offers their Red Birch in the solid red color Premist grade as well as a more natural Colonial grade allowing for a small portion of developing sapwood for contrast.

Canadian Hard Maple is the most abundant hard wood tree found in Eastern Canada and is well known for durability and color. The sapwood of the Canadian Hard Maple is a bright white while it’s heartwood is made up various shades of dark brown and mineral streaks.  Like Mistral’s Northern White Birch, Canadian Hard Maple is offered in sap white Select and Better grade and the natural colonial grade of developing sap and heartwood.  A complete color range of stains are available in the colonial grade.

Santa Maria (Palo Maria) grows in the humid tropical rainforests of Bolivia. These majestic trees stand over 150 feet tall which average diameters of over 36".

The grain of this distinctive hardwood is interlocked and displays a broad strip pattern on its quarter sawn surfaces. The reddish brown heartwood is similar in appearance to Merbau of the Philippines or Sapele of South Africa and it's annual growth rings are clearly distinguished. It has the density and strength of hard maple and when quarter sawn its movement between varying relative humidity's is less than any hardwood species commonly used in North America.

The natural durability and stability of Santa Maria makes it an excellent wood for planing, moulding, sanding, turning and finishing. It is most commonly used in the manufacturing of fine furniture, decorative veneers, detailed architectural millwork, durable plank flooring, interior/exterior doors, and windows.

Now available moulded and pre-finished by Mistral Hardwood Floors, Inc. in widths of 2-1/4", 3-1/4", 4-1/4", and 5-1/4".
